Music Ministry

Music is an integral part of Catholic Worship. St. Margaret Church has a dynamic Music Ministry with several opportunities to get involved. If you feel the call to lend your musical talents in service to the Church, please contact our Music Director, Mike Worth by phone (267-304-6490) or email

MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

Cantors

  • Adult Cantors
    • Greets the congregation and announces all hymns
    • Leads the congregation in singing each hymn during Mass with organ, piano, or guitar
    accompaniment
    • Proclaims the Responsorial Psalm and Gospel Acclamation in song
  • Junior Cantors
    • For Grades 3 through 8
    • Performs all duties as Cantor, on a limited and guided basis
    • Learns all music for the Mass, including Service Music (Mass Setting, Psalm, etc.)
    • The goal of the Junior Cantor Training is to “graduate” and become a full-time Cantor


Ensembles

  • Schola: Performs two Masses per Month (1st & 3rd Sun.)
    • High-Level harmony singing: 4-part hymns and meditations
    • Focuses on traditional sacred and classical choral music
    • Sight-Reading not required but strongly encouraged
    • Independent learning of vocal lines required
    • Weekly Rehearsal: Thursday 7:00 – 8:30 PM
  • Contemporary Ensemble: Performs two Masses per Month (2nd Sun./4th Sat.)
    • Group-style singing accompanied by piano and guitar
    • Focuses on pop, gospel and folk arrangements of sacred music
    • Harmony singing for Hymns and Service Music (Mass Setting, Psalm, etc.)
    • Weekly Rehearsal: Tuesday 7:00 – 8:30 PM
  • Youth Choir: Performs one Mass per Month (4th Sun.)
    • For Grades 3 – 8
    • Focuses on clean, unison singing of Mass parts and hymns
    • Monthly Rehearsal: 12:30 – 1:15 PM on the 3rd Sunday of each month
